This isn't about said customs being forced on you but rather you believing whether or not it is "wrong". I'm sure we all have our stance as to how far we would go to accept/respect the culture/customs of other countries, regions, etc. before we personally consider it "wrong."

Friend and I were watching a documentary and it led to us briefly talking about the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. We both felt so long as said animal is raised to be eaten, it doesn't matter whether or not said dogs are typically viewed as pets within our culture. We thought it to be no different than how cows are revered in India but treated as food in most other countries. Some us talk about how we don't want others to force their customs on us and yet here we are trying to do the same to them.

That being said, we do feel the dolphin hunt in Denmark might be taking it too far. Killing to eat is one thing. Killing for fun is another. Even if said whales and dolphin are consumed, we felt the approach to them being killed could be less brutal.

On the flip side, I do feel how women and children are treated in certain countries could be improved upon. I personally am willing to accept to most degree how animals are treated in other countries but consider it wrong how women and children in some cultures are essentially treated as second-class citizens or almost property.

Where do you draw the line when it comes to the customs of other cultures and whether or not you view something as "wrong"?

Comments and opinions are appreciated,

Thank you

It's one thing to have a different culture, it's another to make human/animal rights violations that most of the developed world agrees upon

Human rights violations is probably fairly clear cut. Kinda. Of course depending on who is asked, even developed countries might still have issues with this. But where do you draw the line for animal rights violations? Would you be fine with other cultures eating whatever animals is their norm so long as said animal is treated proper prior to death? Or do you feel only certain animals should be consumed regardless of said cultural norms?

Yeah, why not? Cultural norms are no issue, more lax ethics are the problem.

And for note, people are against immigration for this reason too. People don't go "Get these goat curriers outta mah cuhntreh!" they say "Get these child rapists outta mah cuhntreh!".

From personal experience, Chinese being associate with eating dogs seems very rare. I think maybe only in the most racist of remarks would someone tie-in dog eating when referring to a Chinese person.

If someone is against eating dogs they should consider maybe eating less cows and pigs

Theyve all got around the same level of intelligence and self awareness

I specifically brought up dogs cause some folks seems very adamant against consuming what they perceive as pets but have no issues with consuming cows or pigs that they perceive as food. Some might be willing to accept that as being a cultural norm so long as said dogs aren't tormented while some feel said country/region should stop it entirely.
