The same thing has been an urban legend for the last 40 years, but there's been like two confirmed stories where someone actually did something in that entire time, and in one of those cases it was a father who basically sabotaged his own kids' candy.

Scaremongering gets ratings, though, so it will never, ever stop.

Not to mention that edibles don't come in individually wrapped fun size pieces. Like you get a plastic tube with them unwrapped in there. No kid is just going to grab an unwrapped gummy over a twix or a reeses.

Besides, edibles aren't very strong unless you have multiple gummies. One isn't going to kill a kid. He'd probably get a bit goofy, eat too much candy and pass out. Is that really much different than what they'd do anyway?

It would be costly but it would be hilarious.

though in a way not because children shouldnt be eating the marijuanas and i wonder if it would cause actual harm, though i dont know.

but the idea is hilarious to me

Especially where preexisting paranoia about tainted halloween treats usually results in parents throwing out any unwrapped candy anyway, unless they know exactly where it came from.

Smdh. This really doesn't happen as previously stated. Even in the worse case scenario of it actually happening, nobody is really going to be worse for the wear outside of perhaps an exceedingly rare type of schizophrenic. In short, this is a "Reefer Madness" level of moral panic unbefitting all but the fever dreams of Jeff Sessions.

to be fair, i'd do that regardless. i really don't know where it came from, and i don't know how sanitary the person who made this whatever is, i don't know what's in it, what they did to it.

at least with mass produced stuff, you can reasonably expect a general sanitary level, and you can clearly see every ingredient in it listed. i don't have to go "i wonder if the machine who mixed this and piped it to the other machine washed their hands after taking a messy shit"

i remember when tide pods, or laundry pods in general, came out, and my local news ran a story that they could be confused as candy by little kids and no one cared because that's stupid

and then like, however many years later when tide pods became a meme, they ran another story about it, and even though the footage was different, the actual script was the exact same

My guess is that the mother is the one that put the needle there for attention

They even claim that it was a tiny needle with no visible puncture mark, so was she seriously bending every piece of candy to make sure there was no needles while also being the one family that happened to get a twiddler with needles in it?

If it were legit youd think it would have happened to more families

Literally the first two lines of the article:
Police are warning residents after sewing needles and a nail were found inside candy given to children in Massachusetts and New Hampshire on Halloween.

The tainted candy was distributed in the Brant Rock area of Marshfield, Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard and in Salem, New Hampshire, according to police.

That's two different states, and the towns aren't close by each other. Martha's Vineyard is literally an island off the coast of MA.

That's gotta be a really short list of suspects. I would have to think tourist season is mostly over there and i can't imagine that there are more than 20 families that live on the island year-round.

Maybe 16k residences, but I would have to imagine the vast majority of them are not primary residences, especially once beach season is over. It is not a large island and it is overwhelmingly a tourist locale.

What a reliable source too. If this actually happened like that article claims it would have been on real news sites like CNN or Fox News. Then you have the one image shown which was obviously put there by the mother who just wanted attention.

Given the whole multi-state wide recall, political bipartisanship and swift changes to laws relating to such acts, I think what happened in Australia is a tad more than just fear mongering and people inspired by the news.
Granted a lot of copycat scenarios popped up to mimic the original person's tampering.
I think there was about 30 confirmed cases of hospitalisation, and 100 supposed cases of tampering found and reported. Sadly people for some reason started to make fake reports. <<
