I often hear stories about people being militant about smokers. Now I'm curious if these things actually happen.

As someone that used to smoke the most obnoxious thing I've seen done was someone was coughing loudly for what felt like a solid minute and locking eyes with me as if to make a point. It was super awkward because they were across the street and upwind of me so there's no way it was getting near them.

I told my dad to quit smoking because it will kill him. To be fair, he tried to quit.

I've never smoked cigarettes so I can't relate to it but...when someone quits heroin, they don't go into the gas station and see a wall of heroin behind the cashier. They (hopefully) don't see people casually walking down the street with a needle in their arm.

I can see why quitting would be hard.

Nothing. When I smoked the worst anyone did was the over the top fake coughing bit.

When someone is struggling to quit something, they gotta be away from their triggers. Friends you used to do said thing with bring temptation and have to become the people you have small talk with when you find yourselves in the same store.

When someone is struggling to quit something, they gotta be away from their triggers. Friends you used to do said thing with bring temptation and have to become the people you have small talk with when you find yourselves in the same store.

Yeah it's weird, when you quit smoking people act like you should just be able to handle being around your old friends that smoked all of the time immediately, but if it's something like heroin they definitely understand not wanting to be around people that use. There have been studies showing that both are pretty difficult to break free from, some even claim cigs have a lower rate of quitting but I somehow doubt it. Either way they are both a death sentence, one just kills faster than the other so they approach it differently which is pretty unfortunate imo.

Most of the time it's the usual excessively loud coughing despite being 20+ feet away and upwind with zero chance of having actually smelled or inhaled any of it.

But one time, and only one time, while I was at college I actually had a complete stranger walk up to me and literally smack it out of my hand and step on it. I've never thrown a punch in anger in my life, but I won't lie that was probably the closest I've ever come. Instead, I opened up my pack without saying a word, pulled out two cigarettes, lit them both at once and blew the smoke straight into their face while glaring at them as they tried to bitch at me. They decided it was best to walk away at that point. They probably made the right choice.

Funnily enough, another random stranger saw the whole thing and came up to me after the douche walked away, saying how they couldn't believe someone could be that arrogant and obnoxious. I offered them the second cigarette, and we ended up being smoking buddies during our break between classes for the rest of the semester. Nice guy. XD

Actually, scratch that. When I was in college, a friend of mine--a bigger friend of my roommate's, but also one of mine--shows up at the door drunk with a cig in hand. So I close the door to keep the smoke out and he tries to force his way in. I'm kinda forgetting the details but by the end of it all I had shoved him, yelled at him and locked him outside. I didn't really have a lot of experience with drunk people. Still don't.

Once he sobered up some, he apologised for everything and told me I had every right. Which I kinda disagreed with but I accepted it anyway lol.

Some people plead guilty in court just to get the whole ordeal over with sooner. If it happens there, people will do it in damn near any situation. Sometimes talking about said problem too much is more annoying than the actual problem.

I've never smoked a cigarette but a friend nagged me into taking a drag when I was a teen. I held it like a joint and hit it every bit as hard as I would have one of those.

Holy shit, the pain. That was the end of that shit.

Never done anything to a smoker. Though I remember as a kid when my dad called out a family friend for smoking around us. He said "Darryl, how would you like it if I came up to you, spread my ass cheeks, and just farted in your face?"

As a smoker, I've never had anyone (other than my girlfriend) give me shit for it. Though I am extremely cautious as to where I smoke so as to not bother anyone.

Yeah, in retrospect the most flack I got for being a smoker was from a girlfriend. I think she gave me more trouble than even my immediate family but I can't blame her considering I've kissed a smoker as a nonsmoker before and it wasn't too pleasant.
