Both are accepted spellings.

The Yakuza games use "Coliseum" when describing the underground fighting arena in Kamurocho.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise (a Yakuza-based game) uses "Colosseum" when describing their fighting arena.

I feel like there's a localization cold war going on here, between the two teams.

And I feel like I'm the only one who would ever notice since I do guides for the series. >_>

Hmm, yes yes I see. So the Flavian Amphitheatre is in fact "the" Colosseum, while any other variants thereof are "coliseums", including the Flavian Amphitheatre itself.

So, the correct use of the term in Yakuza and FOTNS should be "coliseum", since neither of these take place in Rome.

Colosseum is a proper noun. Coliseum is just a regular noun. The Colosseum is a coliseum.

It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."
