I'm curious. Do you think it's a fair association to make? I see it made a lot and I'm just wondering what the thinking is behind it, curious to hear from libertarians. Before crypto it was almost always associated with support for the gold standard and it still is with many, where's the relation?

Libertarians support competing currencies within the US. Not sure what the exact reasoning is behind it but I think it has to do with the Federal Reserve devaluing the US dollar at will with no oversight. Competing currencies would take power away from them and put it back in the hands of the people (in theory).

it's a decentralized currency that isn't controlled by the federal govt, and it's all backed by the tech required to make the actual bitcoin. it's a libertarian's wet dream

I associate cryptocurrency with people thinking they've found their free ticket to becoming "millionaires" without having to ever do anything............excluding that I actually know all the trading behind the multiple currencies and some basic laymen knowledge on crypto there are so many depressed people out there that feel locked out on "free money" because they dont have a miner to plug in so they feel like they are missing out.....instead of getting a job to buy hardware to mine they will complain about how life isn't fair and won't take the next step to actually even get on board

This seems the most sensible so far I guess. It is a bit of a weird jump to make an argument against USD because it's fake and not based on any real standard but turn around and support crypto 100%.

Yeah but where did the part where libertarians strongly supporting a currency backed by something "real" go? It just seems like a crazy diversion from what they have historically supported.

Fair. Also as far as the environment for businesses getting into real mining, the US is pretty forgiving with companies that go south even if that doesn't work out in their favor if someone wanted to do the hard work. Basically the liability is with the company and if it goes under you just move on to something else.
