...to not introduce a new mechanic for the LEGO metaseries.

Almost every LEGO game (at least the ones I can think of), introduce a new mechanic. Whether it's LEGO Incredibles with it's "family builds", or LEGO Batman 2 introducing hubs, or LOTR introducing voice acting, LEGO Hobbit introducing materials collecting and building, multi-builds, etc.

Of course, apart from things like hubs and voice acting, very few of these mechanics would persist for more than one game, because more often than not they were pointless and sometimes slowed the game down, but hey, at least they were trying new things for a series that basically is the same as it was thirteen years ago.

About the only new things LEGO DCSV does is that the first thing you do is create a character (which has been an optional staple in the metaseries from almost the beginning), and that character actually ends up being a part of the story.

I lost interest in the lego gams after playing through the first star wars ones then getting the complete saga (1-6) lego gam and then I got bored right around beating the prequel trilogy

I don't get how 10+ gams in people still think they might enjoy them. also traveller's tales is set for the rest of forever cause of the lego licensed series
