Little Nightmares, Rime, Shovel Knight, or whatever. It sometimes feels that way. Short, simple games, often with moderately bad problems, get like 7.5s or 8.0s. Is this to encourage smaller developers, or something? Or do reviewers just feel sorry for them?

I think the worst thing you could do to an indie game is not review it at all. So for all of the Shovel Knights and Dead Cells that are actually great games that deserve praise, there's a shit load of junk that gets passed over. If a big reviewer is even reviewing an indie game then it most likely has to have some buzz around it for a reason.
