- Bunch of teenagers and 20-somethings from Germany are sent to clear mines from Denmark after WW2

- Commanding officer hates them and treats them like dirt

- Keep getting blown up / maimed by mines

- When they're finished, several of them are piling up the de-activated mines, talking about how happy they are to go home, etc. when the stack of landmines goes off in a huge explosion, killing them

Just, urgh. Who makes a film like this? Even Bergman wasn't usually THIS depressing. Or von Trier. But, the ending was kinda happy. They got sent home, even if they had to disobey orders.
