Stuff like Street Fighter, Marvel VS Capcom, Soul Calibur, DOA, etc. These complaints weren't neccesarily apply to every series I just listed, but they're pretty common problems with the genre...in my opinion.

- All the different versions of games of released. I mean, Street Fighter II had 6 different versions...come on.
- The stupid tweaks, usually involving character balance, because they couldn't get things right the first time (like they do in every other genre).
- The fact you can't really change much in a sequel, just add characters
- The lack of value as a one-player experience
- These games often aren't that accessible to new players, and there's not much to enjoy until you're at least an intermediate player

I do enjoy fighting games, don't get me wrong. I even went so far as to buy some (although not many). But these are serious problems with the genre, and there are quite a few of them.

- The lack of value as a one-player experience

Though the story ended up sucking, BlazBlue has shown it is possible to have an extensive story mode in a format that works really well for fighting games.

- These games often aren't that accessible to new players, and there's not much to enjoy until you're at least an intermediate player

Stylish mode fixes that problem

I agree. Soul Calibur 1 had my favourite one-player experience of any fighting game, ever. I spent quite a while on that, with lots of fun stuff to do, and a great plot.

Most games have an arcade mode, and maybe some similar stuff, but that's it.

they couldn't patch games back then, but yes, releasing 5 blazblue titles these days is inexcusable

its tough balancing these kind of games
- The fact you can't really change much in a sequel, just add characters
again hard to patch games when there's little internet and companies got used to it
- The lack of value as a one-player experience
a byproduct of multiplayer games being online, same thing with FPSs, nowadays you have a short campaign with most of the game being online multiplayer
- These games often aren't that accessible to new players, and there's not much to enjoy until you're at least an intermediate player
true but I think this allows for greater a greater competitive ceiling, kinda like CSGO
