I think he died back in May. I obviously didn't hear about it at the time.

Very sad. He wrote a lot of books (about 30), and at least a couple were very good. Geninely talented writer, and he wasn't afraid to write smart, challenging books. He didn't shy away from writing about being Jewish, either...even if he didn't think much of religion, himself.

Of course, he'd been retired for a few years. He was pretty much spent as a writer.

Anyway else sad about this?

never read any of his stuff but his death was a fairly big deal here in NJ because he wrote about it so much

I think he wrote more about NY state than NJ? Although obviously, they're pretty close together.
