Why did they feel the need to set Temple of Doom before RotLA? There's no neccessity for it at all. It could just have easily been set after RotLA, and eventually, before TLC.

I don't understand.

I believe Lucas has said in past interviews it was to make a change from the Nazis as villains without resorting to a cheap macguffin to explain it on screen.

It's just a shame that we didn't ever get to see Indy get revenge on Lao Che.

Lucas: We made Temple Of Doom a prequel because we didn't want to use the same bad guys. We had ideas about the Monkey King. We had ideas for a haunted-castle movie but then Steve had just done Poltergeist and said, "I don't wanna do that again." We were struggling to come up with another MacGuffin. We couldn't find anything as good as the Lost Ark. We ended up with the Sankara Stones, which was a little obscure.

Interesting. But, it could've been set after RotLA, and used non-Nazi villains. Just because the Nazi regime existed, doesn't mean they HAD to use Nazis are the enemies.

It's funny, I know the film is a prequel, but I can't remember where in the film it says the year.
