It shows that Bucciarati could have taken the simple death and avoided the tragedies his team faced, but instead was so driven to create a better world that he and his team were willing to face whatever came their way even if it meant death. I feel they could have truncated it a bit for the animation, since given its point in the timeline theres really no way to have satisfying dramatic tension. Its entirely dependent on its theming. Which it does do incredibly well and Im glad its a part of the story.
