I thought perhaps there was a dub with American accents, a dub with British accents, etc.

I know that CE is the go-to place for enquiries about anime, and Japanese art in general...

Not really, a later rerelease makes a few changes to the English dubs, but most of it is the same.

This, I think.

Some of the Ghibli movies do have an alternate dub though, with Castle in the Sky being one of them.

Yes. There was an earlier dub done by a different company.
