Current Events > why aren't there the sims clone yet?

With all these retro feel but new games surfacing, it's only the sims that haven't had proper 'knock off'

Sim city have cities skyline, planet coaster, 2 point hospital, and that other zoo tycoon clone etc.

I don't think there's an audience for it. Pretty much anyone who wants to play a game like that is just going to play the Sims.

because they stopped making those other games while they still shit out the same sims game and expansions all the time

With the expansions there's basically no need for a Sims knockoff.

Boy remember those Tycoon games that went nowhere, like fucking Prison Tycoon.

Yes but a Sims clone would have the same problem. From what I've seen, the issue most people had is that the sequels didn't match the content of the previous games. So any sort of successful clone would have to have as much content as the Sims 2/3 with the shitload of expansions, the same smooth functionality, and at least some kind of charm and humor to match.

Even if someone had all that, there's still the issue of advertisement. I think it's safe to say the Sims is a rather casual franchise. That audience isn't going to see a Steam ad or hear about gaming news. Even if you get the word out, the Sims has 20 years behind it. It's going to be tough to convince someone to switch franchises.

hmm i think the audience part is really correct. alot of people play the sims without actually gaming in more serious form.

EA basically had a monopoly on the genre and decided to kill it off by removing features just to make people pay to add them back in as dlc/expansions.

yeah, that's why clones like skylines / planet coaster exploded. are the sims audience more casual than the other tycoon games tho?

I think Sim City always appealed to a less casual audience than the Sims. It's just inherently more complicated. I believe part of the problem was that EA was going for the Sims crowd and streamlined and dumbed down a lot of features. Skylines appealed to fans by not being dumbed down.

AFAIK, EA never really had any kind of hold on the theme park sim genre. Unless I'm mistaken, people just kept comparing newer ones to RCT and they kept falling short until Planet Coaster.
