I'm fine with it turn base since they want to try something new and pretty burnt out from beat em ups for the past 9 yakuza games. Ull give it a shot at least. Nagoshi did say if people dont like it he will go back to the classic format anyway.

I can kind of understand trying something new, Yakuza 6 wrapped up the kiriyu story, so they're kind of free to try whatever now.

Tbqh, it might be kind of cool for them to try a sleeping dogs approach, with it being gta style, with melee combat. If it retained the same depth and charm of the Yakuza games, without falling prey to the problems of modern open world games, it could be neat. If they kept it smaller scale, and not overly massive, it could work.

Also we get a completely new major area to explore, a section of Yokohama that's apparently three times the size of Kamurocho.

Tbh the more I think about it the more Im like...there's probably a good overlap of people who love yakuza and people who like turn based combat

It's probably a LARGE overlap, as the Yakuza series has largely been very niche in the west, with the exceptions of Yakuza 2 on ps2 and Yakuza 0 on ps4.

Yakuza 0 is the most successful game in the west in terms of sales iirc. And the series has always targeted us 25+ year olds who grew up with beat em ups and JRPGs, so it's honestly not much of a stretch to say the majority of Yakuza fans likely are also fans of turn based combat.

Yep.

Yeah, that seems to be the point of this release. The subtitle of the game in Japan is "Whereabouts of Light and Darkness".

This seems to be an effort to reconnect the series in the West with its much cooler original name. :)

thats kind of awesome. yakuza is an annual series so seeing such a massive change is incredibly awesome and daring, and i will never not support being daring
