Telling someone they are worthless for their body size and telling someone they are healthy despite their body size are two equally harmful mindsets, so we need something in-between to allow people to feel happy despite their size and convince them their size is not at all healthy.

If people want to live unhealthy lives let them.

I do not support fat acceptance and I don't believe fat shaming needs to come back.

Shame is a bad mechanism for change.

You can disapprove of things in yourself and others without shame.

Shame is the disapproval of the person because of the action, not a disapproval of the action itself.

Becoming obese and being obese are bad, obese people are not bad, the latter is the argument from shame.

Yes you did. The question in the poll is the opposite of the topic title. Your poll is now meaningless.

As for my answer, no, I don't support fat shaming. The simple reason is, it doesn't work. Shaming actions can be effective. Because we shamed smoking and drunk driving, those activities declined sharply.

But being fat isn't an action, it's a result. And the actions leading to that result are not shamed at all by society. If you're genetically lucky enough that you can eat nothing but junk food and sit on your ass without getting noticeably fat, you will suffer no shaming. If you aren't, you won't experience shaming until you've already gained the weight and formed lots of bad habits. So now you're in this state where it's super hard to change, making you feel like shit and easily able to spiral into depression.

So no, it's not a good idea in any way.

I don't know where this started, I've suffered lots of depression and been close to depressed people all my life. But you are not killing somebody if you are mean to them and they take their own life. It's the wrong mindset to put somebody's mental well being in other people's hands.
