This company has unlimited PTO and let's you bring your dog to work. Smaller than my company so less claims.

My company pays well and I have a huge bonus every March but the job sucks and they always treat the people who perform well like shit and give them a ton to do.

What do

Unlimited PTO is usually bullshit, heads up. They have it where I work and it's really just a way for them to not have to roll over unused time to the next year or pay it out when you quit.

I haven't been here long enough to test how actually "unlimited" it can get but we need additional approval after 15 days.

try to reach out to people who work there and get a sense of the culture there to see if it's BS or real and if you would gel. Money's important but if you're spending almost half of your waking hours at a job, happiness can be more important. But don't leave your current job for empty promises

I read reviews on glass door and it seems better than my company.

They also cater lunches and provided fridges with snacks and drinks. Plus there is flexible scheduling with the ability to work from home but I don't know the extent of that.

My job offers none of that

It's probably less work because there would be less claims. It's a niche startup that's been around since 2011.

Just be wary of unlimited PTO. A lot of places have offered unlimited PTO but its with an asterisk. I read some study a while back that showed people who work at those places actually take less time off than their limited counterparts.

I read it's because people are afraid to ask for time off because they'll look like slackers. As it stands, I've been unable to take vacation in 3 years due to my pto being mixed with my sick leave.

I did email her for the preliminary interview. I need to see if they have tuition reimbursement.

It is worth taking the interview, maybe they will sell you on the place. You can just tell them you need the same salary (or more) to make the move. Unless your job has great benefits (pension, great health insurance) it is always worth keeping your options open. With most jobs only offering 401k at the most, there is not a lot of incentive to stay long term somewhere. My current job has a more traditional pension, so that is a huge perk that will probably keep me here, plus it is a pretty great job for the most part.

My work allows dogs but it doesn't really seem that beneficial to dog owners, I think it's more of a just for fun thing. They don't want a bunch of dogs there at once (understandably) so it's not like it's a regular escape from having to have your dog sit at home all day or whatever.

I mean you may be aware of this already and it sounds like not the only reason it's worth applying but that aspect is pretty overrated

My current work has a pension but I've been with my company 5 years so I'll get a little regardless of if I quit now. I'm also in grad school so this job is temporary anyway and not my lifer job. The only thing I absolutely need is tuition reimbursement.

Do you get along with your co-workers?
Think of them. I mean, any job is better, if you are working alongside fun people/ friends. I've quit good jobs because the people around me were jerks. ...and I've done some real shit jobs, but they were great because I was working with great people.
Ultimately, if you're not happy where you're at, then leave. No money is worth putting up with a shitty work environment.
