If they sent you an email, then it is required by law that you get it done. So yes, you have to go.

then its most likely synthetic...you can run that until like 10%....and it doesn't really need to be changed very often. Mine is good for months.

What kind of oil did they put in it last time? this is a big factor because some oils can last for 10k miles and more than 4 months.

i dont know, but i dont really drive much, i only got my car for a year and only have like 4.5k miles

Is the car new or is it still under warranty? If so the maintenance is likely covered and free. Most routine maintenance dealerships do is at estimated mile intervals so you don't really need to go if you don't want to, but its probably free so there really isn't any reason not to go if that is the case.

It's really easy to change your own oil and filter for like 40 bucks tops.

some dealers will sometimes offer the first one for free, but not all of them.

Yeah...no. I did all this the first two years or so with my RAV4.

it's probably just a glitch in their notification system, I know our DMS software suite is a clunky mess at the dealership where I work

You got a promotional deal included when you bought your car. that's completely different.

BMW and Mercedes occasionally do a promo where the include maintenance for the first three years on any leased vehicle.

But generally speaking, you always have to pay for your own maintenance.

and yeah, even semi-synthetic oil is good for 7500 miles or just every six months, depending on how you drive

Nope. Toyota care comes baseline with every new toyota. Its not promotional or something you get now and then. Quick googling shows Hyundai offers a similar service that covers new cars for two years or 24,000 miles. OP is most likely talking about regularly scheduled maintenance which this plan would cover.

wow really? even the cost of tires and brakes? that's quite a deal from toyota and hyundai. granted you probably don't ever need to service your car beyond regular oil changes (they last forever and are bulletproof) but still good to have that kind of peace of mind.

What? Of course it doesn't cover the cost of tires or brakes unless you get an extended warranty (and even that doesn't cover tires)...but tires and brake replacements are also not routine maintenance so I don't know where you were going with that.

so what's considered routine maintenance then? just oil changes? air filters? Wipers? Because there's more to upkeeping a car than that. Wow so Toyota saved you $30 every 6 months? Seems kind of lame.

And see that's the thing. As I was saying before, the free maintenance promos advertised by BMW/Mercedes included EVERYTHING.

I'd wait. unless your car is acting up its fine right now. you'll just pay another 100+ for them to change oil that doesn't need to be changed and put air in tires that are inflated just fine.

Just do it when the "change oil soon" light pops on.

Ask them to put a reminder sticker in the top corner of your windshield if they haven't already. Most dealerships do something like that, so that if hit either that date or mileage you should get the oil changed.

In fact, I'm sure you could walk into the service lane when you have free time and ask them to print one for you going off their records of when it was last done. (Just don't get suckered into service that you don't need, some places are pushy like that)
