definitely continuing to read the manga. even i will read from the beginning so i can know the details they have skipped.

it's just marvelous in every way possible. the plot, character, comedy, action, drama just blend together. the cast imo is the best part. i ended up kinda rooting for everyone. the antagonists aren't really villains and all the recurring characters are crazy in their own way and the show did a perfect job of writing "different factions clashing to reach the same goal". it's not just good guy vs bad guys or protagonists vs antagonists. allegiances shift and turn, the more character backstory revealed, the more you like them. they made literal crazy psychopath likeable and human.

there are alot of nuances drawn from the setting. the atmosphere, historical backdrop, politics, culture all play part in the plot and give context and sense to the character motivation.

the only thing keeping this show from being perfect is probably the shitty CG animal, but seriously. you will ignore some of the crap CGI because the plot, characters, and atmosphere will draw you in so hard.

reading the manga now. itis worth it reading again from the start for extra bits of information like maps, and neat trivias in the extra pages.

chapter 10 and it is still very early. like episode 2 or 3 and i havent found anything that the anime skipped yet.

i am a sucker of historical setting and the show have alot of nuances drawn from it. from the ainu culture, to the majority of the cast, who are war veterans who basically still have their souls tethered on the battlefied. it's so damn awesome

I watched it but this is definitely a series I want to watch over. There's a good deal of historical background that I glossed over the first time around. It's also super interesting to hear of the Ainu customs and the politics of the time. And you hit the nail on the head OP with how it's not protagonists versus antagonists but different factions clashing achieve a the same goal. And the ending is LIT.

Great show, great manga. I definitely try to rec this to people as often as I can.

Some might be put off by the historical setting, but it's pretty funny and -- dare I say -- educational. And it has some of the craziest antagonists I've seen in a long time.

read it imo. the anime is excellent, but so far (made my way trough chapter 50 ) there are just denser amount of information (like more trivia into hokkaido's wildlife, ainu culture, also history) for example like weapons description that the characters use.

yeah, which is a shame, because history is a goldmine of storytelling. maybe the problem is in media is they picked alot of tired, overused period and events to tell stories (like WW2 or for japanese, the sengoku era) and golden kamuy took a slice of relatively obscure period in obscure area as a backdrop and build a plot and characters from there, while doing actual research and try to be so god damn educating while being extremely entertaining too,

I heard of it because Grand Summoners did a collab with it lol. Turned out to be great. Love the humor and the overall dynamics between Sugimoto and Asirpa

Also the intro/outro songs rocked ass
