The most economic way to acquire candy is to skip the costumes and just buy the candy on deep discount on November 1st.

Costumes cost money and/or time. Trick and treating costs time. What does the net hourly wage of a trick or treater end up at?

Of course, if you enjoy going from house to house, that's a different thing.
