Like it does the job of makimg everyone talking about it but they have always designed sonic in the new trailer, but it wont have people talking about it this much if they revealed the real sonic design.

Step 1: make trailer with shitty sonic
Step 2: say you listen to fans and "redesign " sonic and now people are talking "wow this looks much better"
Step 3: ???
Step 4: profit

Ive been thinking that since day 1. either that or they rushed out the original footage for whatever reason. but that would be bad business.

does seem like a set up.

similar to when the Deadpool "test footage" leaked from some Fox employee and a month later they announce that the movie is being released after hearing the demand and universal praise for it. And of course the first trailer features the exact same test footage lol.

Maybe. It's a little hard to tell.

I'm leaning towards "no" but how many people had to sign off of on that horrid Sonic design for it to be published and none of them said "you know, this just doesn't look right"?

Don't think so, because pushing from Christmas to mid-February seems like a big risk to ticket sales.

IIRC rumor was that the reason Sonic looked so different in the first place is because the movie studio realized that if they changed the design enough they could keep all the toy sale royalties, as opposed to having to cut Sega a check for using Sonic's likeness. My guess is the design we're seeing is what was proposed prior to executive meddling and in a giant "I told you so" moment some creative director pushed hard to go back to the "real" design after everyone hated the new one.

But it's sonic. Is there even a law saying if you license a thing, you still get more cut if you dont use the IP's likeness? Plus it's cartoon not actor.

Like it would make sense if you license pirate of the carribean but dont use johny depp so you dont have to pay johny depp.

Actually I remember hearing something along those lines too. I had forgotten about it until now.

Maybe that's why Sonic's arms are blue, even after the redesign which included more accurate shoes and gloves instead of white hands.
