just making my way to the first village after i got the glider. i can see the shrines are disappointment compared to classic dungeons, but otherwise the game mechanics is brilliant. the interaction between elements and environment is fantastic and it's still fun to kill moblins with your devised machineries of death.

atmosphere is also damn fantastic too. the game looks gorgeous, especially since i play it on 1440p and 60 FPS plus some visual tweaks

It's a good game, but like every other open world game it's as hollow as it is wide. There really isn't much to the combat, story, music, challenge.

It is a great game though. I hate open world games, but this was the first one where the actual actions of traveersing a large area is fun.

I disagree. The world design is very intentional and well made. Traversing the world map is the substance.

I would agree the world is the best part. I just think the other elements of the game are lacking.

It is probably the best open world experience. Not many games where you can drop in, pick a random direction and always end up finding something interesting

it could have done with really cool dungeons or ancient cities or something to stumble upon and find a unique item I agree

The open world isn't really empty, it's actually really cool. Feels like a large sandbox to play in.

The only downside of the game is that it doesn't have the big dungeons the previous games had.

I really like how they handle the open world. It is a more refined version of ubisoft formula without too much hand holding. They only gave you automatic map marker for the main quest and thats it. For sidequest, shrines, etc, you have to SEE it first in the world then set tags on it or follow the direction NPC gave you like the bandit treasure quest. I have always said open world design that can handle the players navigate without GPS is great design, and really few game achieve that (gothic, most piranha bytes games, outward) but i think Botw achieve it in decent way (not perfect because you need the pins in some ways, but considering the scale of the map it became tolerable).

There are also neat stuff that makes traversing faster and easier as you unlock more stamina, tools, etc. Impeccable design.
