In terms of musical importance it largely depends on where you look. Jane's Addiction and Faith No More laid a lot of the groundwork for the alternative rock revolution of the early 90s. The likes of Mudhoney and Husker Du created the scene that Nirvana grew out of. Guns n Roses pretty much perfected commercially successful stadium rock.
