Back a little while ago, maybe 2018, I decided to buy games off Amazon instead. This was largely due to making sure they arrived on Day 1, because occasionally the local chain store only had a few copies, which were already pre-ordered. But getting games off Amazon is bullshit. Sometimes, I get up in the morning, all pumped up to play a great new game (well, hopefully great), and wait until 4pm for it to arrive. I know this is first world problems, blah blah blah, but...video games matter!

Thoughts on all this? Which route do you go, these days? Amazon? Shops? Digital?

For day 1 I have never had a problem getting games at gamestop. Just stroll in during lunch and ask for it.

"Ask"?

Well, yeah. At the counter. That's how you buy games at gamestop. >_>

They don't have then sitting around on shelves.

I think it was obvious what I meant - don't "ask", demand!

Get your shit together, spanky.

Unless you're collecting, why not just digitally pre-order the game?

Sure, but in 90% of cases (so to speak) I get physical. I want to see it on my shelf.

Just bought a game from gamestop for 15 bucks that was listed as 67 bucks on Amazon lol. I don't understand these horror stories about gamestop. I swear the people who have problems are looking for trouble.

Walmart has surprisingly stepped up into the void Bestbuy and Amazon left open.

As far as new releases go, I buy from Best Buy but once my GCU membership ends for good in November, I'll probably have to rethink that.

Its usually from some socially inept NEETs that cant handle the most minimal amount of human interaction possible. When they get greeted in store the mumble back "H-hi" and bury their face in the ground. After they pick out their pokemon game of choice and go to pay for it, they stare at the counter the entire transaction. When the guy at the register asks if they want to sign up for powerup rewards, they mumble and stammer again, prompting the guy to ask again because he couldnt understand. When they finally work up the courage to say an audible "no" the transaction can be completed and they can leave.

The whole time they are driving the Honda Civic home, they stew and get offended by the audacity that the jackass clerk had to try and up sell them and swindle them. They think about things that they could have said and done that would have been totally badass and really put him in his place (though they would never really act on these power fantasies). When they get home, the first thing they do is make a "Gamestop horror stories thread" where they explain about that shitty wage slave trying to pull a fast one, and how every time they go to gamestop they are constantly harassed from the moment they walk in the door.

At least thats how i see it

I have a day job so having the game ready in the mail for me after work is much better than having to fight traffic getting to the store and waiting in line.

Never understood buying stuff you can get right away from online. Unless you're in a small podunk town and have no other choice. Or if you really want to wait for Hugo the fedex driver to get done eating breakfast, lunch and dinner before he finally makes it to your house. Especially this time of the year. He may not even make it at all depending how backtracked he is.

I have never, ever received an item I pre-orded on Amazon on its release date, whether it be a game or book or whatever. As someone who only buys physical media I've always enjoyed waiting outside the store, waiting for it to open so I can run in and grab my new toy, so to speak, and this just kinda reinforces why.

This made me laugh, but the objective fact is their up-selling truly is relentless. I don't go there for games (just action figures, mostly) and don't really have a reason to badmouth GameStop otherwise, but yeah, it's by far the worst I've ever seen and a huge turn-off.
