Current Events > Just saw Rise of Skywalker. Fairly average, sadly. So many problems. *spoilers*

I did enjoy it, and certainly some parts were really good fun / cool, but...by SW standards, it wasn't particularly great. I would rank it near the bottom of the 9 films. Well, these were my problems.

Rey is the granddaughter of Palpatine? Is EVERYONE in these films related, or rather, secretly related to each other? Also, what the fuck had we never heard about Palpatine having a daughter before? Why doesn't she have amazing Sith powers?

The massive fleet, that Palpatine had secretly constructed. There must've been dozens of full-size destroyers.

The way the massive fleet each have a Death Star-level weapon, despite the fact they're regular ships, not the Death Star.

How pretty much every romantic subplot established so far was dropped, or seriously scaled back. Rey-Finn, not addressed at all. Rose-Finn, not addressed at all. Kylo-Rose, barely dealt with. Wtf.

Remind me- how did Palpatine survive? I know he was basically Zombie Palpatine now, but...this wasn't even talked about.

Why did Palpatine, and other cool characters, get so little screentime?

Why did we need to have SO many locations crammed into the film? Why was that even neccesary?

So, in Episode 8, the call for help from the Resistance was COMPLETELY ignored, but when the Resistance does another, very similar call for help, every guy and girl who owns a starship turns up? The fuck?

Why was Lando even in this film? He wasn't neccesary, and barely even did anything!

A bunch of dead Snokes were stashed in some glass container, with little to no explanation.

Too many boring, or unnecesary (or both) scenes.

Well.

Don't get me wrong. I basically enjoyed it. It was better than some films. It was still (slightly) better than The Phantom Menace, but...so many bits that made no sense, such OTT storytelling.

while it wasnt terrible, i didnt care much for it. lots of stuff that didnt make sense or was flatout stupid.

not to mention the amount of clichs. specially near the end. god was this boring!

The Mandalorian is way more entertaining to watch than this dreck.

The Force isn't genetic. Powers and potential isn't inherited by offspring. This is a Skywalker only trait.

Nothings built up. It just happens. Over three films things go like:

-New badass snoke is huge!
-Hes not huge and now dead
-Hes not really anybody.

Or

-Kylo struggles with being bad. Kills dad.
-Hes committed to the darkside. Kills Snoke.
-Hes a good guy and dead.

Things just happen.

i had a glimmer of hope that both Rey and Kylo would have died at the end. that would make the ending somewhat interesting.

but alas, as soon as i saw Kylo coming out of that hole, i was like "oh right, i forgot: this is Disney!" -_-

i want to see the roadmap to these sequels. kylo ren best character in sequel trilogy
rey was tap dancing everything so well
finn and poe had such promise and potential yet were demoted to background important support characters.

star wars cannot do force movies and tell a story about state affairs together. everything about the force eclipses the ragtag group of freedom fighters. disney must go one way to address the force and another to world build a galaxy far far away

This is kinda contradicted by the idea that Yoda's race is generally Force-sensitive.

It was pretty goddamn soulless. For all the flaws of the prequels, at least I can remember what happened in them.

I think cause its been beat and tired to death. The sequels just ...exist. But its like once you see it, you just forget about it. Odd for a Star Wars movie, but the movie has fallen victim to modern Hollywood syndrome; cool action, no plot, totally forgettable.

this is sort of off topic, but do they ever explain Anakins backstory more? I might have to rewatch episode 1 again, but I dont recall them talking about his father. Did he have the force as well?

Darth Sidious has been monitoring Anakin for more than the childs life.
He purposely involves himself with Anakin to take the Sith to galactic rule.

The Palpatine reveal reminds me of the Vince Ministry of Darkness reveal. They were both equally terrible.

I'm not gonna address all your points, just gonna say that "by star wars standards it wasn't particularly great" must mean it's pretty terrible since there's only been one actually good SW movie since the 80s.

this trilogy so far to me has felt like a worse remake of the original with some different stuff and a plethora of inconsistencies here and there...

for what its worth tho, i'll take it over the prequels. lol
