I agree that Skyrim's combat was pretty trash, though I enjoyed the ragdoll physics and weird funky shit you could do with shouts and spells and stuff.

And I don't play Witcher games for the combat, I play them for the story. 3's combat wasn't perfect but it was still engaging and enjoyable.

The Witcher 2 and 3 have my favourite combat in any games, I'm forever baffled by the criticism they get.

Because combat isn't the only consideration.

That said, I have always preferred Japanese games as a general rule.

I don't remember 2's combat that well to be honest but I do remember it being fairly clunky, like... sluggish or not clean? Don't know how to describe it.

I did like 3's combat but it got really repetitive after a while, though the DLC added new monsters and enemy types that helped alleviate it a little bit.

"Move out the damn way" is all the "dodge button" that's ever been needed.
The very act of adding a dedicated button tends to turn everything into mini punchout instances, or counting invincibility frames. Sometimes both.

you guys should try gujian 3 on steam. its like witcher 3 with better combat but worse with everything else. loving it so far.

i think most americans have just come to accept they will never have as good combat, and certainly not as good bosses, as japanese devs. so they look at the other elements of those games

I have a hard time getting into Witcher because I keep expecting it to kinda feel like either Soulsborne or Zelda or something a little tighter, or even Arkham. Kinda irritating.

There's multiple possible builds and they all play differently and tactics and preparation are important. And of course you should be playing on the harder difficulties.

Witcher combat is so bad i wish i could just watch the story and not have any combat
