Per capita it seems like the numbers are following the norm right?

I mean...we were never going to be a South Korea type of country and could pull out the extreme measures they did. Not with a few months of prep...not even with anything less than 2 years of prep most likely.

We seem to be doing about normal based on how many European countries are doing though. So why's everyone calling USAs covid 19 response catastrophic...disastrous ect?

Well other countries are apparently massively under-reporting their numbers also, China for instance apparently only has 82k confirmed cases and 3342 deaths in a country with 1.4 billion people that seems like a joke.

There is no way they only had that few of cases and deaths.

A lot of these westernised countries are because of the amount of pro social idiots living in them.

US is doing just as bad as those other countries. Italy was the worst because of the massive Tourist gatherings and it just spread like wildfire

The thing is...if USA was vigilant it would have decreased spread easily

  • USA closed China flights a lot early than most
  • It doens't have huge accesability to Italy like 95% of European Countires

But then you see every god damn state and business act slow in response

Morons and fucking Idiots going o Spring Break in Florida

USA could have been so much further ahead with this but a combination of slow reaction from government and fucking degenerate teens has hindered that

Honestly I feel like we, along with alot of other nations, knew about this far ahead of time. Money could have been put towards testing while it was bad in China, but it wasn't. Only the social elite were allotted that privilege here.

I could be wrong about the details, but yeah, I think far more testing would have helped the rest of the world. I don't know about Europe, but here it was only until recently you could even be tested for it. Which means numbers are probably absolutely skewed since without proper testing, who the hell knows how many were infected and had no symptoms and didn't pass it along or passed it to another person that was asymptomatic. We'll really never know.

Yeah its very hard to track cases and deaths in China when your country is that big with no real governance outside of a few dozen cities. Its the same with any country with billions of people. A shit ton isn't going to be accounted for because they live in the middle of fucking nowhere

Well China also is basically a dictatorship and if they report the most deaths by a landslide it makes them look incompetent. This is a country that banned Winnie the Pooh because people were comparing him to their leader.

it's ultimately doing fine, just had a lot of wasted chances and time to be better.
nowhere near as bad as Spain, Italy, France, Sweden (on its way to being the worst of the first world), or a couple others. not as good as Germany.

we also do vocalize a lot of our infighting between our governments a lot so you end up getting drama and a lot of evidence that we've some pretty broken systems that need work. there was also some early response by certain industries - insurance in particular - that was awful but that's largely been fixed.

They've faith in their community and medical system.

I do wonder how no go zones are doing and how much they're included on stats but hey. It's a steady control group thus far.

Edit: and there IS a logic to it in that they need to worry less once society opens up again. It just has a lot paid up front.

We're not doing TERRIBLY, all things considered, except for NYC... but we'd be in so much better shape if we'd acted sooner.
