*excessive padding/filler/gating content off just to pad out length. This speaks to so many games, from Assassins creed Odyssey to ff7 remake. So many games have pointless busy work side content that just isn't fun.

*over-reliance on crafting systems in rpgs. It kinda takes away from the fun of exploring to know there's no real point to it since you won't really find any cool loot since everything worth a damn is crafted.

Lol most of those apply to Assassins creed Odyssey. I'm a huge fan of the series, but that game annoyed the fuck out of me when I finally beat it and looked back at my time with it. Origins was a significantly better game in almost every way and I'm glad the guys who did that are doing Valhalla.

I adore open world games, but so many games make themselves open world for no goddamn reason and fill it with padding. It's like devs forget you can make games pseudo open world so that the world feels large and open but everything is contained and concise. Fable games are pseudo open world, FF7R is pseudo open world.

That's why jedi fallen order is so funny, it's not an amazing game, it's simply a decent, fun game. What made it so appealing is that it was just a concise, simple, single player game with no bullshit and no padding. A rarity today.

Yeah, I'm just kind of over crafting being the only real option. I miss actual loot, that feeling of killing a boss or going deep into a tomb or something and getting a really cool weapon or piece of armor or something. Crafting just isn't the same. As much as I love Witcher 3, even it is guilty of this.

Loot drop systems, at least poorly implemented ones where I have to open the menu every few minutes to compare. It gets to a point where I'll just go thru half the game with poor equipment because I'm tired of checking.

It's even in smaller scale games like God of War, Tomb Raider, Evil Within 2, Control, Doom etc.

It's almost universal.

Loot that's just damage modifiers are so boring too.

This always amused me how in Witcher 3, a fall greater than 4 feet will kill geralt. And in ass creed Odyssey, they start you out with fall damage, but offer you an upgrade ability to remove it, essentially more goddamn padding.

The 'run around this glowing circle on your minimap and find the thing that lets you progress the mission'

Who finds these fun? There's usually nothing else going on but running around blindly until you finally get the dumb notification you've found it. It's often tied to some detective vision (which is another thing way too many games rely on and should fuck off) thing too.

To a lesser extent the 'follow the glowing footprints for ages while nothing else happens' is played out too.

Both of those are why no man's sky on console is just... I mean I bought it a few months ago and while the play loop is fine, it's tedious having to hold to confirm you're opening up the buy or sell menu. And of course you have to move the cursor over it instead of the d-pad
