It really does seem to be Middle America. I mean, it's got a great combination of farms, towns, and cities. It's meant to be pretty hot in Summer, which is good. Places like Des Moines and Cedar Rapids look REALLY nice to live in. Must be great growing up in Iowa, all those friendly, genuine people. Being an adult looks cool, too, as long as you live in a decent-sized city.

Iowa isn't bad. The best state in America is definitely Idaho, though.
Alaska, with its coastline and glaciers, is close. And I suppose, in the long run, it will probably be the last American state after absorbing most of Canada and Greenland during the Climate Wars.

What are some movies filmed in Iowa? I'm sure there are some. About Schmidt came to mind, but that's Nebraska.
For Idaho, Clint Eastwood has a couple, including Pale Rider. Beautiful country. The River Wild is a decent thriller that takes place in Idaho, but I think it was shot in Montana or Wyoming. Richard Pryor also had a movie with some scenes in Boise, although I don't know if they were really recorded there.

I really like the way Nolan integrated the natural scenery of Alaska and northern British Columbia into Insomnia. I watched that one for the second time only recently and was struck by the landscapes' beauty.

if the worst climate change fears happen, it's said that someday Alaska will be a temperate climate like WA or Oregon is right now. and everyone south of Alaska will be like a desert. everyone will move to Alaska and all that land will get turned into new cities. maybe hundreds of years from now, Alaska will be where most americans live

In my college atomospheric science class the professor actually guessed the opposite -- rainy equator areas will become desert but because of the lack of ocean currents due to warmer waters and less salty waters (which have slowed 20% in 200 years) everything north of 40* latitude will become extremely cold

We're talking like next 200 years though
