Famitsu gave it a perfect score for instance.

All the reviews are saying it's portrayal of Japan is faithful and the accuracy of its setting and language and its main character are also faithful. They haven't had a single negative thing to say about how the western dev portrays Japan, the language, and it's people.

They're saying the same general things as western reviewers are in regards to gameplay and such though.

Reviews are all over the place for this game. Some find it meh, some find it outstanding.

I think most of the criticism is just open world fatigue syndrome

I think it's one of those game where you just gotta be on board with the vibe, or else it really is just a generic open world game.

Yeah, and how many outlets gave Skyward Sword perfect scores?

Not saying this game won't be great, just saying professional game reviews mean fuck-all.

The setting is what interests me the most in the first place. If they nailed that aspect, I can forgive a lot of the open world problems.

Pretty much. That's why there's always a camp for every open world game that find it way more intriguing than everyone else.

Seems that's the games strongest suit from reviews.

Stylistically the game looks amazing, especially the various filters, but the gameplay demo completely turned me off from it. It looked way too much like an Ubisoft game where you just go from camp to camp doing the same generic events and the combat itself look way too simple called me over for how long the game will probably be.

Like, the one-on-one duel looks like it would be really fun. The first time. By the 20th time all of that buffer around the actual fight in terms of presentation is going to get really tedious.

The whining about gameplay/combat is the usual from people. Most games you act stealth like and camp or hide to pop out to kill/shoot. That's how stealth games are or when people are coming at you. It's nothing new. Hide and poke. Get over it. Also the combat similar to DMC series or whatever only goes so far and after like half way into the game you're just repeating the same moves. People want new moves every chapter or something?

Also the people whining about the stealth where the CPU can't see you when you lay down or something clearly haven't played past games. Play on the harder setting maybe that will slightly improve the CPU otherwise CPU has challenges when it comes to stealth like games and what you can get away with.

For example playing MGS 5. A box slowly moves and the CPU goes to check it out slowly. Don't you think in real life if a random ass box showed up behind you the approach would be a lot different. It's the same whining when it comes to action movies and how the hero typically defeats everyone. It's a fake ass game/movie...stop taking shit so seriously and enjoy it as an adult.
