When I'm far away, I keep tapping the long range attack button; when I'm close, I tap the short range attack button. Is there meant to be any kind of logic or whatever to this, or is it just button mashing?

You can do different combos by mixing up your weak attack/heavy attack buttons. Some wicked weaves work really well for certain situations but not others. And some bosses/minibosses are assholes to fight if you don't plan.

she feels to weak to me. no impact or satisfaction with her attacks.

Have you ever played an action game in your life?

Experiment, figure out combos, abuse dodging and Witch Time. Crank up the difficulty if you're just mashing. Or just like, think while you play?

I didn't like how it works either since I'm so used to how Warriors games do combos.

You mash buttons and along the way youll get used to doing certain combos which youll just keep repeating over & over again. Its great.

When youre done with Bayonetta move on to the Devil May Cry series & Ninja Gaiden series.

I'll add that Ninja Gaiden Black is the best character action. It's also the toughest.
