One thing I will say for A&W, I liked their mini corndogs (if those are still a thing). I haven't been to an A&W in years, though, so I don't know what's on their current menu.

Jack in the Box is probably the best overall fast food restaurant, but oddly enough their burgers are their one item that isn't that great

Hardee's (Carl's Jr) is definitely underappreciated these days

Since I guess we are lumping in fast casual with fast food here, Five Guys easily, but I also don't eat out much and have only tried four of these in my lifetime, and I probably haven't had a Whopper or Big Mac since I was in middle school. That just leaves Five Guy's > White Castle sliders

Man, I'm proud of Board 8 for giving A&W love. Such a great chain.

My absolute favorite chain burger is Wayback Burger. There are no words for how good it is. My city doesn't have one, and I have tried and failed for years to find a burger of similar quality. Back Yard Burgers comes closest.

I really like Burger King as a whole, but the Whopper is horrible and should have gone first. The Rodeo Burger is the way to go there, even if it's dollar-menu slop.

When I was in college there were two back yard burgers within like 2 miles of each other. They were the only 2 in hundreds of miles. I enjoyed them but rarely went there because you needed to have a car to ger to it off campus

Then a way back burger opened in my home town.

It was good. But man it was greasy....i had a milkshake on top. I went into one of my worst food comas ever after that.

I'm going to be honest, I've never eaten a burger at any of these places I didn't really enjoy. Burgers are inherently delicious. I assume that when people say McDonalds or Burger King are 'terrible' that they mean in relation to their favorite place, because both those places are still delicious!

you can tell right away how bad it is but you still eat it

I feel there's something about McDonald's bread that tastes a bit more artificial. I still eat it, especially when they've got decent deals on offer, since I'm a cheap bastard.

And for me personally, thrift is the name of the game with fast food. It's all designed to taste good while you lard around on a couch, so I may as well spend the least I can to achieve the same placated lardass feeling. That's why I consider the $5 Little Caesars pizza the king of all fast food items, especially when their promo codes work and can get you a free 2-liter soda with it.

like if you compare a mcd's or a burger king to a hardee's, wendy's and can't see a difference, and then compare a wendy's to a 5 guys and can't see a difference, you have an unrefined palate, plain and simple

I didn't say burgers are bad! I've eaten at a lot of the places that supposedly have the best burgers, and it wasn't some transcendental experience where it was just clearly better than every burger I've ever had.

It just doesn't make much sense, for like any food. board 8 is like THE place where we put stuff in great big lists of preference so everyone here should be able to do that with like anything out there.

I didn't say they all look and feel the same! I'm just saying burgers are generally good and I haven't found that one burger that's head and shoulders above the rest.

But I'm also not one of those food snobs who says chain pizza is trash and only local pizza places are good, so whatever. People have always told me I have a weird sense of taste.

Chain pizza is not trash but it is generally of lower quality than the local places. And just like with burgers there are varying degrees of quality between the different chains!
