She was one of the earliest women to have strong ambitions - wanted her husband to become king - and she was punished for this. All Lady MacBeth wanted to do was break through the glass ceilings, improve the lives of women everywhere.

Of course, the play was written and set hundreds of years ago, so antifeminists were always going to persecute her and drive her, eventually, to suicide.
