So just looking at the Wiki review, spoilers for the whole movie:

Immigrant girl comes from a conservative religious family
Sees older girl who dresses provacativly
Wants to do something different and falls into the twerking group/TikTok culture
She is ostracized and posts nudes of herself to rejoin the group (the mindset of her age thinking this is what is needed to be included)

The end is the girl finally realizing that the ultra religious, subservient wife is not the path she wants nor is the path of being an oversexualized child what she wants. She dresses up like a kid and goes to jump rope.

So the whole point of the movie is don't sexualize our kids with social media and don't repress them in the name of religion. Let kids grow up as kids.

The clips ARE disturbing and that's the point of the movie. Netflix marketing really fucking dropped the ball.

And I'm still having trouble believing this faux outrage from the same people (back home) who have never said shit about Dance Moms or Pageant Girls or whatever the fuck those are.

I think you can achieve a similar effect by casting adults who look young instead of casting actual 11-year-old girls and shoving actual cameras up to their actual butts to watch them actually do sexually suggestive dancing in revealing clothes.

There were a lot of ways to make this movie okay, and none of them were done. This movie is not okay.

Like I said in the other topic. You don't criticize sexualizing children by sexualizing children.

Yes, the director is a black woman and was trying to make the audience uncomfortable. But the problem is she made the movie TOO disturbing for the intended audience and it's the pedophiles who are going to end up enjoying the hell out of the movie.

There is absolutely no context that can justify an 11 year old girl doing a high-kick in booty shorts while the camera zooms in on the crotch area.

When that scene is in a film, it's a fucked up film.

There were a lot of ways to make this movie okay, and none of them were done. This movie is not okay.

Dawson casting never works because the adults always just look like adults. Im pretty sure the director choose young kids for this specifically because of how shocking and disturbing it would be

The point, however misguided you think it might be, was to show that this goes on right now and is glorified across the world with children pageants and social media pushing sexualisation of children down their throats. It was a grim and very real reality being presented, using actors rather than the real thing.

If this was the best way to go about it though... I don't know. It definitely makes for uncomfortable viewing and likely paedophiles will watch it with glee, but then they already have hundreds upon hundreds of children pageants to watch. Netflix dropping the ball, rolling in their own shit, eating it and throwing it back up again for marketing didn't really help either. But maybe they purposely did it to generate controversy and get people watching it.

If you take certain clips and edit them together out of context, yes it comes off way worse than the actual film.

People keep bringing up how only pedophiles will like the movie while watching the movie. The whole cancel Netflix or Cuties is disgusting is only leading more people to watch the damn movie.

IDK this whole controversy seems odd to me. America has this stuff happening to actual children, to actual victims. The TikTok generation is a real thing going on. Immigrant children are in camps being abused, going before judges, and being essentially trafficked to American families legally.

And the #PROTECTOURCHILDREN people are getting more upset about a French film that is doing the same stuff that real life kids are already doing as a means to shine a light on how fucked up life is for kids.

It's like the Pizzagate thing. Its the fictional exploitation of children garnering more controversy than the reality itself.
