For those unaware, there already was a 2007 film made in and for Japan based on the events of the first game.

This is apparently a Western-funded effort.

For me personally, I feel very few video game franchises "need" a film.

Yakuza in particular, as it's very nearly a well-shot, well-acted film on its own, interspersed with gameplay.

We've long been at a point where video game franchises stand up on their own without needing the "legitimacy" of the silver screen.

Ive always said my two dream games are a giant Yakuza tag team fighting game with all the main characters and villains of the series and a Yakuza Ultimate game consisting of a giant GTAMMO style game involving fighting and taking over territories spanning all the cities and stores of all the various games. Hell Ive thought about a lot of Yakuza spin offs as its my favourite game series, but never once did I dream of a Yakuza game directed by Michael Bay or whatever other shitty director theyll get to direct this movie.

Agreed whole-heartedly. That being said, A live action version of Majima could be entertaining as hell.

They really ought to go with an established Japanese director and writers who can balance the bizarre with criminality. He's very hit and miss but Takashi Miike would be perfect
