It really is difficult, for almost every hour of the day. You just sit there thinking about eating.

If your diet is that miserable, try something else. I mean, I get where you're coming from, as I have binge eating disorder, have been morbidly obese since I was 8 (and always a bit husky before that), and I peaked at a high of 370lbs (5'10") at 29. I'm down 140lbs in just under 3 years with no re-gain and it has been a bit difficult but compared to times when I tried to force myself to eat diets that didn't work for me, it's mostly been a matter of patience.

I don't fight with myself not to eat this or that. I'm not miserable or any more food obsessed than I always have been. Everything has been fine tuned to minimize self-control and willpower, which is a good thing because I just don't have any perseverance at all.

If your diet leaves you that miserable, try to find something else.

sounds like your diet is just really bad. You can still stuff yourself with low calorie, high satiety foods. 500 calories of rice+chicken breast+broccoli is about as filling as a 1200 calorie Chipotle burrito. And you can make it nice with good seasoning and a little sauce

Eat more nutrient dense foods and you won't be hungry.

That's because you're focused on the dieting aspect rather than the eating aspect. Get excited about cooking and stuff.

Drink a mug of warm water if there's any chance you're under-hydrated when you first feel hungry.

Eat a lot of vegetables. The bulk literally fills you up. Sauteeing in olive oil or butter will virtually never be as fatty as a takeout burger, so don't think you just need to chew on raw vegetables.

Make a big salad in a large container that will last you six or so meals. Eat some of that salad with each meal.

(British food is f'ing terrible. Potatoes aren't a goddamn vegetable.)

Lean protein keeps you feeling full longer, so pick meats that haven't been processed as much. Eggs aren't lean, but they're good for you, too.

Cheat days and moderate consumption of favorite binge foods are not sins.

Exercise more so you can eat similar amounts as you already do without gaining more weight. Walking, fidgeting, whatever. Adding muscle mass will burn more calories latently.

If you're trying to lose a lot of weight, buy a blender. Smoothies and vegetable soups are easy to make and put a lot of nutrients into you at once. I have a BlendTec, one model down from the one that can blend a gun.

This, IMO, is one of the most important things to keep in mind. Don't try to fight a craving that's getting stronger and stronger, because you will give in and you will think you've failed. If you are craving that donut, have it once a week. As an example, I started craving pastries a couple of days ago. I bought a half dozen grocery store donuts and ate them all. Now I'm not craving anything and I'm back eating cleanly. Next week I'll crave something else, maybe a pizza or a burger. I'll get it and be good for the next week.

The hardest thing about dieting is the most effective diets are expensive and require you to cook while all the garbage mainstream diets are heavily catered too by lots of restaurants.

Vegetarianism usually will result in low energy and a loss in muscle mass as you eat a bunch of fiber and not much else and eat enough calories to sustain your current muscle but not much else. It's prob not a bad diet if you're a woman tbh. If you're a guy with some muscle mass, you're going to have to eat a metric fuck ton of salad to feel truly full and prob have to eat a hit load of nuts to get the protein you need.

Veganism is prob even worse as all of these people eat far too much carbs, which is basically the bane of your dieting existence, so there's shitloads of fat vegans.

Keto / Carnivore, low carb or no carb with an occasional salad, works absolute wonders, but it is SOOOO fucking hard to do these diets unless you cook and spend a lot on meat.

Every restaurant throws carbs with everything.

Mexican food is full of carbs.
Italian food is pure carbs.
Sandwiches have doughy ass bread, same with burger.
Asian food is full of carbs.
Every place that serves Steak overcharges the shit out of you so they can throw sides at you...which are usually baked potato or something similar, aka carbs...

Dodging carbs when you don't cook is...almost fucking impossible.

There needs to be more restaurants where they just serve you a big plate of fatty meat for a reasonable price without all the other bullshit and that's it.

It's really not. You don't need a special diet.

1. Stop eating shit (desserts, overly saucy, fried, etc.)
2. No liquid calories outside of milk and shakes .
3. Exercise.

this is total nonsense

You just eat fewer calories and you lose weight. Eating out is one of the things fat people need to change...

I've been vegan for almost 3 years, eating a high carb diet. Lost 140lbs with no regain and have had no problem building or keeping on muscle any time I actually try to. Hell, I did a lot of calisthenics work on my upper body this past spring and even though I've been running as my main source of exercise for the last two months, I've kept a fair bit of my strength and definition. I occasionally get my parallel bars back out and can do about 3/4 of what I had been doing when I dedicated myself to it above all else. I plan to get back to that when I'm at a lower weight (still obese for my height at around 220) because I feel the stress on my joints, but even despite that I was able to make a lot of progress.

I used to try and try and try low-carb bullshit over and over because I thought it was the definitive answer to my weight loss. Any success I had was short-lived because it made me so fucking miserable. Once I tried a whole food, plant-based diet where I was encouraged to eat carbs, I was able to start really taking control of my diet like never before and finally get to that "lifestyle change, not a diet" zone.

Also, vegans don't just eat nuts and salads lmao. Legumes, grains, and root vegetables all provide more than adequate calories.

That's the gist of it, but to provide nuance that is often left out... you need to put your info into a Total Daily Energy Expenditure calculator, find out what your maintenance calories are, and create a safe, reasonable, sustainable deficit. If you want to gain weight, you eat above it.
