RDR is about a man trying to throw everything to release himself from the yokes of his past, RDR 2 so far seems jsut to be gang story in a dying era.

the writing is still good, but just doesn't have the same weight and feel to it.

i heard rdr was a mess of a game it's held by strings and bits of miracle

give it some time, because overall, RDR2's story ended up being better than the first game's, IMO, and Arthur Morgan establishes himself as being one of the best video game protagonists

i guess. i just robbed the bank in valentine in chapter 3. this does feel like early long exposition to build its characters and world before they throws the plot at you. you're just basically doing stuff with your gang mate and get to know them better.

being a fan of trails games i really don't mind it and the game is enjoyable so far.

yea, the game is more character driven than plot driven this time around.

like, there's no end goal outside of Dutch's whole "Tahiti" thing, and because it's a prequel, we have some idea of what happens to the gang, but not entirely, so its biggest draw (for me at least) was seeing how everything unfolded

Thats because the gameplay has been the same for so long. Lock on and aim slightly up.

but 2 is so much better than 1 and Arthur is way better than John was in 1.

Hell, John in 2 is way better than John in 1

Personally I liked RDR2 story more then the first one. We got to see the gang grow and in a weird way we came to care about them.

Then you remember the events in the first one and it makes the story and characters that much more interesting.
