Exactly this. A lot of guys are scared shitless because they don't know how they'd act when on a date and scared that they'd make a fool of themselves. Getting your toes wet with something like this can go a long way, especially since I imagine the girl could offer feedback on what to do and not do and how to improve.

To us it may seem ridiculous but you have to remember that Japan kind of has a dating crisis going on over there so something like this to get some training in is kinda understandable
