I'm not saying no one lies, but disinformation is nothing new. I'm not really sure what new has changed, even with 4 years of Trump

I'll take answers from anywhere on the political spectrum. What convinced you that nothing is true and that you can't even trust your own eyes?

It annoys me that people endorse any of Trump's juvenile terms. He'll forever be remembered for "fake news" and "sad!"

video uploads of cops doing bad things led to people questioning the system
sometimes the videos were cut or edited where the cops were justified leading to more questions
eventually people just assumed everything is manipulated to make us believe what they want

The internet.

A significant % of people think they have the wisest choice of accurate news and interpretation of the world, but what they have is a spigot of bigots.

It's a fracturing of news sources. And many are falling for "red pills" with agendas.

None of us are 100% immune.

so i was watching a ted talk about, of all things, elsagate. one of the points it made was that because of the way advertising works, and the way the youtube algorithm works, attention is a valuable commodity.

telling the whole truth won't get you as many clicks or as much view time. telling people what they want to hear will. that's why you should be skeptical; these are companies, and they have money to make.

Disinformation has always been the norm. Major media is all coopted by the intelligence agencies. Whistleblowers are cracked down on. People see enough lies and they stop accepting anything you say is true.

I don't even expect people to trust everything, but it just feels like it's out of control. Everyone thinks everyone lies. Everyone thinks they have gotten the right information and come to the right conclusions. What even is truth when everyone thinks they found it? Does it even matter at that point? What is even the point of anything?
