No spoilers please, I'm still early in season 1 but the show is acting like he's such a guy when he is super arrogant and kinda dumb.

Not shooting at the guy who is shooting at you and your partner and then tried to stab your face springs to mind. And then he called him an innocent man later...

And his entire relationship with Bruce is fucking weird. Leave the kid alone dude, stop hanging around his house and talking serious crime and politics shit

He's also super rude to The Riddler who is like a super nice bastion of civility and professionalism in this cesspool and Gordon doesn't even thank him when he keeps walking in and breaking the cases.

Speaking of cases, he didn't even peruse the Dolllmaker. I get it might be another country it but they didn't even show him making inquires or interrogating the perps, it's like he didn't care.

But that's small fry, where he lost me is when he handcuffed an underage girl in alley and left her by herself when she was in his custody.

That's not fucking okay dude and be was super casual about it.

Then she runs away (can you blame her) and he's like "grrr oh no, this makes me annoyed" and then stopped caring 3 minutes later

and it's like no dude... you abused and then lost a little orphan girl in YOUR custody, that's not how you should react . Your entire job should be in jeopardy and you should be at risk of criminal charges you idiot.

Dont get me wrong it's not a bad show, I just think they've done a really bad job of making Gordon the good guy.

He seems to be just as corrupt as everyone else only more incompetent and self righteously arrogant about it.

Maybe this'll change as the show progresses but those were my initial thoughts

I agree overall. From my understanding, I don't think the show ever tried to paint Gordon as a "good guy" in the traditional sense. The show often went out of the way to express that he was arrogant, prideful, shortsighted, and too focused on his work. His one strength was in his morality, and that he refused to allow himself to be corrupted by Gotham (though that gets tested several times throughout the show).

His incompetence in his job is often brought up by both allies and villains, and is sometimes frustrating that when he does win, it is usually either through pure dumb luck or because one villain sabotages another, giving him the easy win.

Overall, I think the show improves later on. It gets more campy, which I think works in Gordon's favor as it makes his faults more entertaining.

The first three seasons or so are super good, but at some point it just goes off the fucking rails.

It's a solid show overall though and I love the version of Alfred from the show.

Weren't they working on an Alfred spin-off/prequel? I guess that never made it off the ground?

It annoyed me at various points through the show when people would be all like "the high and mighty Jim Gordon, just can't stop doing what's right" and I'd be sitting here like "uhhhhh I remember like seven times he violated people's civil rights last episode."

Exactly!

A shame too because in most Batman Canons, Gordon is like the best dude in the City

It's one of those "show, don't tell" concepts that were clearly violated throughout the series.

Gordon definitely made Riddler into a villain on that show.

Stick with it, TC. It's a great watch.

I don't think anyone was surprised that it got shelved. Even when I first heard about it I was like, "Why?"

Are you guys talking about a show other than Pennyworth? Because the season 2 trailer for that came out a couple of days ago, I think.

I was told it got shelved, but I haven't kept up with it because of that. My apologies if I gave incorrect information.

I haven't watched the show either, just happened to see that there was a season 2 trailer put up on DC's channel on youtube a couple of days ago. Pennyworth is on a different network, EPIX, and I genuinely have no idea if there was another Alfred prequel kinda show more specifically based on the Gotham version of Alfred or something.

I m digging the show but 3 plot threads suck

1. Barbara. Shes a total **** and I don't care about her
2. Kid Bruce complwayne
3. Catwoman

I hate prequels that have badly written , badly acted shit based solely on the fact the audience has future knowledge. Taken in a vacuum all the catwoman and Bruce scenes are a total mess

Show would improve dramatically if they never appeared again and Barbara was killed by Firefly or Cash or Solomon Grundy or something

Are you still in Season 1? If so, your first complaint will go in a direction you didn't expect, lol.

Unfortunately, the other two continue throughout the series. The only bright side is that later on, Bruce gets his own plotlines that don't drag down the main story too much.
