I feel like people whose stance on the Simpsons is "episode 9 was the point that the series died" are some of the most humorless shitheads on the internet. Like I get the criticism, the show abandoned "heart" for wackier topical episodes, but I think the show only got disgustingly bad in season 18.

It might be a cultural difference though, because the Simpsons was basically a cultural institution of its own in Australia. It was on Channel Ten at six o'clock before Neighbours, new and old episodes. The show had legs for years beyond season, and I find it ridiculous that no-one finds the show bearable from 2000 onwards.

The jumping off point for me was the irrelevant 24 parody, the episode where Bart gets Denis Leary's phone and books him a gig filming the Everybody Poops movie, the episode where Springfield harasses Bart to the point of suicide and the episode where Marge tries to take Bart out of an Irish Protestant school that he's excelling in because she's worried about them going to different heavens. And even then, episodes like that last one have great jokes in them. My entire childhood of Simpsons episodes were fine at worst.

The Treehouse of Horror episode where Homer clones himself with a magic hammock is hilarious. I don't give a fuck - The Simpsons was great for years after the common-knowledge cut-off of season 9.
