It seems that some longterm series reuse tracks quite a lot. I think this particularly applies to simulator series. What is the rationale for staying interested in a series? When much of the content in a new game isn't new at all, why care?

I'm honestly curious.

Updated physics and new cars are a couple of reasons. Even with returning tracks, there are usually some new, or altered versions of old ones. Sim racing in particular is about incremental upgrades to get ever closer to reality.

evil cricket, do you personally buy a new game in a driving series, even if there's not THAT many new tracks? Or not?

For example, between Forza Motorsport 6 and 7 they added night versions of some tracks, and dynamic weather, which really did change the nature of races when present. That was enough to get my attention.

The F1 series, as a different example, is bound by the tracks that F1 actually races on, which doesn't change much from year to year. In turn, though, theyve done a lot to make real additions to career mode each year, making for a richer experience.

As long as I'm still enjoying the series. Why not upgrade to the "better" game? You still have the familiar/favorite tracks from before, plus new stuff with nicer graphics and updated physics.

Edit: also some good points from Antifar in post #6
