But I mean, its going to be massively lame however they go about it. Its not like Ash ever talked about his dad or the audience has any reason to care about him other than a throwaway line in the pilot. A few more I remember is him being aware of team Flares plans in kalos, and in SM where he and Nanu seem to have a history together. Aside from those his major appearances are usually limited to the very beginning or end of a series.
