Specifically, those with big pieces.

I never got a tattoo before. But man whats crazy from these shows are the times it takes to finish a tattoo in one sitting. Generally 4-6 hours. You just talk to the artist the whole time? Maybe watch a show or something? I imagine there'll be breaks here and there but yeah. I tend to have patience but damn that's a long time lol.

Got a 4 hour piece on my shoulder blade. Mix of talking to the tattoo artist, talking to buddy, and vibing to music. Of course there was some dead space in there where no one was talking. Hard to keep any conversation going for four hours non-stop. I can see an especially chatty person or tattoo artist possibly talking for four hours but I doubt that it's the norm.

I have 3 tattoos so far.

One took 3 hours and my tattoo artist took a short smoke break halfway through.

One took 100 minutes.

One took 1 hour.

During all 3 I watched shows on my phone. We chatted before and after but only little during. He wants to focus on his job and I want to focus on shows to take my mind off the pain. I go to the same guy.

My biggest piece was I think 20 hrs? three 6-7 hour sessions. my second biggest was 12ish hrs, so three around 4-5 hr sessions. Ive also had one 5 hour one sitting piece. The rest took .5-3 hrs
pretty much you talk, jam, play on your phone, nap. Ive had a buddy come with here and there. Its a long process but if you want it, you sit. If your artist smokes, you usually get more breaks in between, but personally I prefer if they can get a session done with maybe one break, cuz the pain starts up when you dont have them actively working on it imo

My last tattoo took 5 hours. Spent the majority of the time watching movies on my phone.

All a tattoo tells me is that a person has poor money management skills.

One of my employees got a massive tattoo of a Native American on his arm. No idea why. I asked him how much he paid for it and he said it was 600 bucks. That's almost half his monthly pay.

I only vaguely remember it and im too lazy to google it but supposedly it helps your immune system out. Something about the somewhat invasive nature of it and how your cells react.

I don't have one but from my perspective it's art. Something super nice to look at and that you have with you at all times. Sure it might not seem that appealing to every viewer, but that's art as a whole and if it satisfies the canvas, then that's all that really matters tbh. It doesn't have to have a deeper meaning to it but it's cool when it does.

I eventually want to have one but I want to find a design that I really love before pulling the trigger. Also I kinda want to get more fit so it'll look better and not morph or look weird when my body changes lol

Is it a good tattoo or a shitty one?

If its shitty then yeah, but if its good then thats really no more a waste of money than any art item youd buy for that much.

I mean...if the person has the money and it isn't killing them financially then why not? What makes a $600 tattoo that much different than spending $600 on disneyland or a trip or a console and some games?

It doesn't look jacked up, I suppose, but why an early 20's white European guy would want a massive Native American on his arm is beyond me.

A Disneyland trip is a memorable experience. A console is something you're going to get years of mileage out of. What use is a tattoo? You just look at it in the mirror every now and then?

Like I said it's art. You're most likely going to get a reaction from people, good or bad, but that's like most things in this world. If we're talking mileage, a tat stays with you all your life unless you decide to get rid of it.

Why buy any art?

Art has value even if you struggle to grasp that concept.

Huh, I just read something that said "Tattoos are wounds and when your body is hurt, your immune system swoops in like a cellular superhero that fights infections in not just the tattoo, but throughout the whole body."
Pretty cool if true.

That's one of the reasons I think it's weird for some people to get tattoos. Your body changes, so won't getting fat or old fuck up certain tattoos on certain places?
I know a woman who used to be pretty fat, then she lost a lot of weight, finally got that crow with a rose tattoo she always wanted, and then got fat again.
It wasn't a good tattoo to begin with, but now it looks like an awful black-red blob of shit.

To be fair, I wouldn't buy any art either. But at least you can re-sell a painting and maybe make a profit.

Dramatic weight loss and gain isnt the norm for most people though.

And most old people who have tattoos generally dont care what they look like by that point. Its a natural part of what getting tattoos is.

And this is also why tattoo culture is so focused on ensuring people get quality work that they have zero doubts about getting, because even still people get too many crappy tattoos (in the worst places) on a whim when they shouldnt be.

I have tattoos on my hands but because of what they are and how I got them done, most people dont even notice them and if they do, it isnt a concern.

But then you have people get get shitty big fuck off gang tats and shit and yeah, its immensely stupid.

Profit has nothing to do with actual art appreciation. Reselling art is what rich people do to hide their money.

Sorry I was trying to find a place to upload it with my throttled mobile internet. I will readily admit the artist that did my Phoenix and pumpkins is a very slow artist, compared to most my others, but she was quality so it didnt bug me. I originally was thinking the pumpkin Piece was the one 5 hr sitting but now Im thinking I had to do an outline then come back... maybe it was 5 hrs total then? Im not entirely sure with that one. Phoenix took so long though. Placement and outline, then shading, then coloring and touch ups. It was crazy all the diff places it touches and the different feelings involved (over my ribs, stomach, near bellybutton, and hip all were diff experiences)

I'm not personally into getting tattoos but I've spent time in tattoo shops with my friend while he was getting work done.

It was pretty chill. We just talked, listened to tunes and drank (or at least I did)

It was just like how we normally hang out but he was getting tattooed at the same time.
