I know most 20th century history very well, I know 21st century history very well, I know late 19th century history reasonably well, I know early 19th century history reasonable well, and late eighteenth century history reasonable well. Much of this is from reading nonfiction books, but also of course, from Wikipedia.

The only bits I don't know THAT well, but still have a basic knowledge of, are early 20th century history (this interests me a lot, and I wish I knew more), the 1850s, which is essentially the events that caused the Civil War to happen, and the first ten or so years of America.

I have to say that it's strange you only consider the years after the US's formal founding, to be it's history. There was decades of history leading up to it, which effects it.

Why are people on this board so damned argumentative, nitpicky and literal?

And America usually refers to the country, not the continent. My comprehension skills are not the problem.

North America encompasses Canada AND Mexico as well as Native American History. Grats on understanding what most 8th graders know by the end of their school year! Keep reading and being smug and pleased with yourself :P

I'm mostly interested in history from the founding onwards. But I do have a basic grasp of colonial history. Stuff like the Mayflower, early struggles with survival, dealing with the Indians, forms of goverance, and so on.

No. If he was talking about the whole thing, the topic title would say "I now know almost all the history of the Americas"
His topic title is clear and is referring to the United States of America

No, It says he knows everything about North America. My response to him not saying directly NORTH america was that silly response about him not including south america. My original point stands and you're backing up the wrong horse.
