Have you ever taken an Uber or Lyft ride?

Crazy to me that so many people have just never used something like that cause it seems so prevalent from my view of the world

No. I have my own vehicle, and I don't go out to drink. That virtually eliminates all reason to use Uber.

I've never used them. I own a car to drive locally and I generally rent a car when I'm traveling. I've taken a traditional taxi once or twice, although that was long enough ago that Uber/Lfyt might not have been an option.

I would have to imagine there are large areas of the US that have little to no Uber/Lfyt drivers because the population density just doesn't support it.

I've never used an Uber or Lyft. I own my own car and drive pretty much everywhere.

The only times one would even be useful in any way would be if I were getting a ride to the airport (in which case I usually got a ride from a friend or took a cab), or if I was way too drunk to drive (in which case I always either had a designated driver who wasn't or had someone picking me up).

I think I've been on buses like three times in my life (not counting school buses as a kid, obviously), and I've taken cabs maybe a dozen times. That's pretty much it. About the only form of non-personal transit I ever use is the train (which I used to take into NYC all the time).

It's probably one of those things where it depends entirely on where you live, and to a lesser degree, how old you are. My suspicion is that they're probably most popular in relatively dense suburban areas (but not full urban areas, where you've generally got subways and buses or even walking as alternative options), and with younger people (who are more likely to be technophiles or see them as "proven" services, whereas older people might be more wary or more likely to go with more traditional options).

Correct. Uber/Lyft are services that upper-middle class urbanites use on business trips.

I don't know, most of the upper-middle class business travelers I know just rent cars. Though I suppose I could see it if we're talking about people so urban they never learned how to drive (but in my experience, those sorts of people rarely seem to get into those sorts of business positions anyway).

From what I've seen, the main client pool for Uber/Lyft seems to be vaguely hipsterish suburbanites in the orbit of a larger city, where things are concentrated enough to make it economically feasible but not so concentrated that it becomes unnecessary. Especially ones most likely to spend a lot of time at local bars and clubs.

No, because they required you to pay through Google Pay/Apple Pay and until recently (like about a year ago) my bank wouldn't authorize their cards to be used through that service. And let's face it, there is no way in hell I would ever be using Uber or Lyft right now with everything going on.

Yeah I went a period without a car and had to get one daily.

I liked it when they didn't try to talk to me. Nothing personal. I just find it exhausting to have a 20 minute conversation with a new stranger every day.

I don't use either service, but I heard you could request the same driver or something with a code. I heard many do that, especially when they go to the same place everyday...

When I lived in Montgomery County, Maryland, I just took the Ride-On and Metrobus public bus systems wherever I needed to go. When I moved to Alabama, I had to get my own car since there is virtually no public transit.
