The number of people who make only minimum wage is small so the friction of such a move will be small. The most essential workers are at that lower level of pay. It's unacceptable in a humane society. And we already see from the wealth of PhDs or people who would love to research...that there is simply not currently enough funding going into basic science. Tens of millions of people would become empowered to do quality work that pushes us up the Kardashev scale. I went from a cartboy/jack of all trades at Target, to a manager at a Walgreens, to a sweatshop job on a navy warehouse to finally land a job in my career on another navy base. My current job is a lot more stressful than my days in retail.
