Sick! 99+% of players lose here, including me, but GOAT Doug Polk brilliantly sniffs out the better hand and lets it go.

Imagine steaming over winning a hand lmao

Ill check it out when I have time but Doug is generally known for being a station. He even admitted on his heads up with Dnegs that his instinct is to over call in these situations

i have no clue how he can fold that, he doesnt want a spade in his hand because it increases helmuth's bluff range. helmuth could also have a set or a be on a draw, suchh as with A10 spades as suggested. Q10 is literally the only hand he's behind to and he blocks any open enders

i didn't watch the whole vid. are there payout considerations here? does he stand to make more on average by outlasting some short stacks rather than winning that particular hand?

it's just an insane laydown.

It's a cash game, no ICM

i dont think i couldve layed it down but its not as crazy as you guys are making it. phil is a notoriously cautious player shoving into a checkraised postflop with 2 players left in the hand including the initial check raiser. with a straight actively on the board, it's hard to believe phil would play ANY set this way...like ever. so that leaves bluff or the absolute nuts. its pretty much impossible to see him playing a bluff like this either...its just such a huge overbet that it raises all kind of alarm bells. dougs hand is strength wise equivalent to a set here. if he was holding top set on the flop and the betting went like this, he would make the exact same play and its unlikely phil ever makes this play if HE is holding top set so it becomes a more simple fold.

Wow, sickest fold I ever seen and I have been playing poker frequently for 15 years. As No_U said, Doug already blocks Q10, and as the other guy at the end of the video said "if the man has Q10 here you pay the man off." The only reason I can see folding here is if you think your opponent has a bunch of equity against you and you're playing money scared, which Doug never does. This definitely isnt a GTO fold, the kind of play Doug always preaches about.

I think ultimately Phil fucked up by talking and you can tell he immediately regretted it, though Doug still might have folded anyway.

Looks like Doug explained his reasoning for that fold in one of his videos. Seems like a large part of his thinking is based on the fact that Doug and the other guy has way more combos of Q10 than Phil in that spot given Phil was the original opener. Assuming Phil is aware of the combo advantage the other two players have, theres no way Phil would jam anything but the nuts given the other 2 players can much more easily have Q10 here than Phil himself.
