https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2021/03/25/oral-roberts-university-basketball-deserve-cancel-culture-golden-knights-column/6994502002/

First article: Oral Roberts should be kicked out of the tournament and the entire NCAA. The school is bigoted.

Second article: Christians are oppressed. Tolerate my intolerance. Cancel culture out of control.

My take: Oral Roberts should be allowed to compete freely and we should criticize their hateful little safe space. I thought we hated college hiveminds. The school will literally fine or expel you if you don't "follow the Christian lifestyle" which ranges from not drinking to not playing violent video games to not being homosexual.

A Christian university instilling "Christian" Values?

Next you'll tell me that Chick-fil-A serve waffle fries and that is somehow surprising

However accomplished its young student athletes are, the school is a hotbed of institutional transphobia, homophobia with regressive, sexist policies. There is no way to separate their mens basketball team from the dangers of their religious dogma, no matter how many top seeds they defeat

I disagree with this. If they win the tournament, they should be able to be as anti-LGTBQPOC+ as they want.

I feel like they were going after me with this article

This is sarcasm, dont mod me again for obvious sarcasm

There are plenty of Christian schools in the NCAA and beyond that aren't weird little cults. The journalist in defense of ORU apparently works at a school similar to it and feels personally attacked, so he brings out how ALL religious schools are being "canceled". But Gonzaga, Loyola, and Villanova are in the tourney and no one is attacking them. Schools like Texas Christian, Southern Methodist, etc survive. But I guess the author views those schools as fake Christians kowtowing to their SJW overlords since they don't expel you for being gay.

Who, Stetzer asks, is really intolerant, herethe institution that enshrined and proudly proclaims the most antique and oafish intolerance as a fundamental cultural value, or people who notice that and subsequently make the informed choice to root for them to lose a basketball game, or idly joke about them on Twitter? To the extent that this argument involves the Golden Eagles basketball team at all, it is grounded in a risibly convenient misunderstanding of the power dynamics involved; the Equality Act may or may not represent a threat to ORU and other evangelical schools that have made anti-LGBTQ+ policies a cornerstone of their culture, but blog posts and goofy Twitter blowjob jokes decidedly are not.

Even by the standards of this kind of contemporary conservatism, which tends to treat getting challenged or treated rudely online as if it were the same thing as dying in a brutal gulag, this is exceptionally prissy and overweening stuff.

You can read the code of conduct yourself.

I'd argue the NCAA probably shouldn't be involved with private universities at all but that's way too long gone to change anything.

But I will say this: It's not the NCAA's job to police the schools beyond what's directly relevant to its sports' programs. There's a reason they had to walk back almost every piece of punishment they tried to dole out to Penn State for the Sandusky scandal and it was because they were going to get absolutely demolished in court for attempting to overreach.
