Basically almost every males from the family in parents generation cannot cook.

The second generation is changing it.

Now i can cook. My brother can cook basic stuff. Most of my male cousins can cook too ranging from basic skills to very decently. Meanwhile my dad can't even be bothered to cook instant noodles

I've noticed that older people have this fear that nobody is learning how to do home economics stuff like cooking anymore but damn, have they actually looked into this beyond facebook memes? Because while boomers are still boiling the shit out of vegetables the kids these days are literally experimenting with molecular gastronomy, keeping a sourdough starters alive and sharpening their kit with actual whetstones.

My mother is an excellent cook but all the time I'm showing her stuff that she just simply didn't know. Like how low the internal temperature of meat can be for serving. She always overcooked the roasts!

One of the positives of the internet is the insane amount of access to expert level crafts, and cooking has exploded in popularity and standards ever since.

I attribute about 60% of my cooking skills from chef John from food wishes. The rest is watching my mom as a kid and other stuff.

I definitely would not have. Recipe books are good for ideas but bad at showing you what to do or to look out for, and they often parrot the same old nonsense that just isn't true but is still passed down over generations anyway.

Simple example: how many times I've read something like "saute the onions for 5-10 minutes gently until caremalised". Absolute bonkers nonsense like that until you see a video that actually tests how long that process really takes.

I probably would have gone through life thinking that barely translucent onions are "caremalised".

My wife and I love when he does these gags. Also we mimic the way he does an upwards inflection on almost everything he says.

I love his dad jokes. Like when he says "this ingredient is totally optional, but mandatory".
